2017 General Competition Rules & Information

Eligibility

Participants may only enter one division. Previous finalists may not compete in the same division. Please determine the appropriate division according to your age as of May 5, 2017.

Elementary Division: 11 and Under
Junior Division: 15 and Under
Senior Division: 20 and Under

Repertoire and Time Limits

Contestants are to select one movement of a concerto from the provided repertoire list. The length of the concerto should be no longer than 12 minutes for the Junior Division and no longer than 15 minutes for the Senior Division. Any concerto is acceptable for the Elementary Division.

Elementary Division: 10 Minutes
Junior Division: 12 Minutes
Senior Division: 15 Minutes

Collaborative Pianist

Contestants must provide their own collaborative pianist.

Music Scores

Each participant is required to provide one original copy of the concerto for the adjudication panel.

Deadlines & Application Fee

Applicants must submit a non-refundable fee payable to the Emilio del Rosario Music Foundation:

  • Registration Fee: $100 (postmarked by March 1, 2017)
  • Late Registration Fee: $120 (postmarked by March 15, 2017)

Applications postmarked after March 15, 2017 will not be accepted.

Prizes

Elementary Division: Plaques will be awarded

Junior Division: 1st: $300, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100

Senior Division: 1st: $500, 2nd: $400, 3rd: $300

Results

All of the results will be posted online after the competition.

Elementary Division

Participants in the elementary division will compete on May 5, 2017. The adjudication will be screened and contestants will be announced by their assigned numbers. The results of the Elementary Division will be posted online on May 5 and plaques will be awarded at the Gala on May 6.

Junior and Senior Divisions

Participants in the Junior and Senior Divisions will compete on May 5, 2017. The adjudication will be screened and contestants will be announced by their assigned numbers. Three finalists will be selected from each division to compete in the Final Stage on May 6, 2017 with an orchestra. The order of the performance in the final round will be determined by the music director and conductor.
