The Emilio del Rosario Music Foundation is pleased to announce a Call for Scores (solo piano) for its Emerging Composers Program. Winning compositions will receive cash prizes and be performed at Access Contemporary Music’s Thirsty Ears Festival in Chicago in August of 2018.
The goal of the Emerging Composers Program is to connect piano students with today’s emerging composers. Engaging students with new music is the primary focus of the Program.
Scores are requested for three levels of performers:
Elementary students (Bach Inventions, Sonatinas, Chopin Waltz) ~ 5 minutes
- Winner $500
- Honorable mention(s) $300
Middle school students (Beethoven sonatas, Chopin Etudes, Bach Preludes and Fugues) ~ 6-8 minutes
- Winner $700
- Honorable mention(s) $400
Professional/High School students (no limit on the difficulties) ~ 8-10 minutes
- Winner $1000
- Honorable mention(s) $500
Submissions are limited to one per level for each composer. Indicate the level on each submitted score. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2018. Announcement of the winners on May 1.
The “Emerging Composers” Program invites submissions from composers who have not yet won a major Composition Contest, received a commission from a major orchestra or are listed as full-time composition faculty at colleges or universities. A brief bio should accompany submissions. The EDR Music Foundation reserves the right to determine eligibility.
